Rob's Cycle For Shelter Page
Thanks for visiting my Cycle For Shelter page!
On Sunday, July 22, 2018, I will be riding in the 30th Annual Cycle for Shelter — a 100 mile ride to support the important work of Emmaus, Inc. -- a terrific local organization that helps families and individuals who are homeless to rebuild their lives.
This year, the event has special meaning for me, as it comes at a time when Lisa and I are in the midst of moving to a new home. The process of selling a home, house hunting, getting a bank loan, packing, and the countless other things that go into moving, has often been frustrating and tiresome. However, at such times, I'm reminded how fortunate we are to be in a position to be making such choices. The Cycle for Shelter serves as a reminder that there are many people in our community that are without a home -- and that we have a responsibility to help our neighbors in need.
On any given night, more than 350 adults and children call "Emmaus" home. Located in Haverhill, MA, Emmaus programs assist more than 4,000 different people each year, including more than 2,300 children! Emmaus has been recognized in Massachusetts and nationally as a best-practice model for responding to homelessness. Their programs and services include emergency shelters, affordable housing, homelessness prevention and housing stabilization services, and education and job training, as well as community outreach.
Cycle for Shelter brings together hundreds of riders, volunteers and other people who care deeply about creating solutions to the tragedy of homelessness. We are called by our collective spiritual and social responsibility to serve all people in need—the homeless, disadvantaged, disabled, unemployed, and oppressed.
