Why I Am Riding For Emmaus
I never realized that a simple game of catch with a football or a wiffle ball, or a game of Uno, could mean so much to kids who have so little.
Each Thursday evening, for about two hours, I volunteer my time to play with children who are temporarily living at Emmaus with their parents or guardians.
It’s time well-spent and among the most enjoyable hours of my week.
Just recently, a thoughtful young boy turned to me and said, ‘Hey, I don’t know your name.’ I delightfully told him it’s Cathy, and it’s like we had this year’s -old bond. That night, and on subsequent Thursdays, the young boy enthusiastically called me ‘Cathy.’
Many of the young people I play with are just like your children: Happy, inquisitive, energetic, and yes, sometimes annoying. But for a host of reasons, they’re in a situation that is beyond their control.
The two hours I play with them, hopefully, brings some normalcy to their lives and helps them realize they are, after all, just kids.
That’s why I ride for Emmaus.
I am participating in Cycle for Shelter on Sunday, July 23, 2017.
I am asking you to help by supporting my fundraising efforts with a donation. Your tax-deductible gift will make a difference in the lives of many!
Any amount, great or small, helps in the fight to end homelessness.
